How do I get a craft business in Ardmore, OK licensed and registered?

Jessica wrote: “I work out of my home and do the majority of my advertising online. I make T-shirts, limited goods items, and whatever is trending.”

Hi Jessica, JessCreations sounds like a promising venture. Holiday décor and creative gifts fly off the tables at markets, and original crafts give shoppers something they can't find in big stores. You told us you want to raise capital or sell shares, look more credible to customers and banks and manage self-employment tax, and that is exactly what an LLC is built for. Here is what we will cover: how to structure JessCreations, the tax IDs it needs, and the licenses that let you open in Ardmore, then a quick recap.

Making whatever is trending means your inventory changes weekly, but Oklahoma still sees every one of those shirts as a taxable retail sale, so you will want a sales tax permit and a habit of tracking what you collect from each online order. Buying blank shirts and supplies with a resale certificate keeps you from paying tax twice. Because you have four people working with you, a payroll account for withholding and unemployment comes into play, and an LLC keeps a returned order, a copyright complaint over a trending design, or an employee mishap from landing on you personally. A home workspace usually needs only a quick zoning check, especially with no customers visiting.

What JessCreations needs

  1. LLC (limited liability company) – An LLC keeps business debts and lawsuits separate from your personal home and savings. Should a buyer say your product stained the brick of their fireplace and sue, the LLC keeps your own home out of reach. Once profits grow, an LLC can elect S corporation tax treatment, which can lower self-employment tax; ask a tax adviser when the numbers justify it. Non-US residents can own an LLC too; the EIN application simply follows a different path. If you plan to sell shares to investors, a corporation may fit better later, and an LLC can convert when that day comes.
  2. DBA (doing business as) registration – Registering "JessCreations" tells the public who stands behind the name. If you form an LLC under that exact name, the LLC filing itself protects the name and a separate DBA is usually unnecessary.
  3. EIN (federal tax ID number) – You plan on 4 employees, so the federal tax ID number (EIN) is required for payroll, and you will also use it for the business bank account and supplier accounts.
  4. Oklahoma sales tax permit (seller's permit) – It lets you collect sales tax from customers and hand your suppliers a resale certificate, so wholesale purchases of inventory stay tax-free and properly documented.
  5. Oklahoma employer ID – With 4 employees, you need a state employer account number for payroll withholding and unemployment insurance. It works like the EIN, but for state payroll taxes.
  6. Business license – A business license puts JessCreations on the official map in Ardmore, which landlords, banks, and many customers will expect to see before they sign anything. If you rent, many permits ask for the landlord's written consent to run a business from the property.

By the numbers: Banks, insurers, and tax forms will ask for your industry code. For a craft business it is NAICS 339999 (All Other Miscellaneous Manufacturing). With 4 employees planned, you are already creating jobs in Ardmore. That makes 6 items on your list.

Tip: Include clear safety instructions with any product meant for fire or heat.

To recap: JessCreations in Ardmore, OK needs an LLC, a DBA, an EIN, a sales tax permit, a state employer ID, and a business license. Handle these early and the business starts on solid ground.

What licenses and registrations do I need to start a craft business in Hammond, LA?

Opening a craft business in Hammond is an exciting step. Holiday décor and creative gifts fly off the tables at markets, and original crafts give shoppers something they can't find in big stores. For most new owners, the LLC is the foundation everything else rests on. In this answer you will find the business structure, the tax registrations, and the local and industry licenses for your craft business, plus a short recap at the end.

What your craft business needs

  1. LLC (limited liability company) – An LLC shields your house, car, and savings from claims against the business, and it looks more established to customers and banks. Should a buyer say your product stained the brick of their fireplace and sue, the LLC keeps your own home out of reach.
  2. DBA (doing business as) – If you plan to operate under a brand name instead of your own name or your LLC's exact name, register that name first.
  3. EIN (federal tax ID number) – Think of the EIN as a Social Security number for the business: banks, suppliers, and clients who send you tax forms will all ask for it.
  4. Louisiana sales tax permit (seller's permit) – Register before the first sale. If online orders from another state grow large, that state may expect you to register there too, since each state sets its own sales threshold.
  5. Business license – A business license puts your craft business on the official map in Hammond, which landlords, banks, and many customers will expect to see before they sign anything.

By the numbers: Banks, insurers, and tax forms will ask for your industry code. For a craft business it is NAICS 339999 (All Other Miscellaneous Manufacturing). That makes 5 items on your list.

I need advice on business insurance, finding investors, a website and advertising for my record label. Does the LLC service include the state fee and an operating agreement?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

For a record label, an LLC is the right base. You handle artists' contracts, royalties and releases, and the LLC separates any dispute from your personal assets. The state's filing charge is shown apart from our service fee on the order page, and the operating agreement is prepared with your LLC, so your bank can open the account.

• Insurance: ask an insurance agent about general liability and media liability for a label, plus coverage for equipment.
• Investors: they usually want a formed LLC, an operating agreement and clean books first, then a clear plan for how their money is used.
• Website and advertising: register the name and open the bank account before you spend on promotion.

A surety bond is not what you need. Insurance protects you from claims, while bonds guarantee performance in certain regulated trades.

Do I need an LLC and a tax ID if my items are not taxable in my state? I also need to register a business at an address in Georgia.
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

Yes, an LLC still makes sense even when your products are not taxable. Taxability is only about sales tax, while the LLC is about protecting your personal assets from product and customer claims, and about credibility. With investors in mind, a formal company is what they will want to see.

On the tax ID, you still need an EIN for banking and federal taxes, since that is separate from sales tax. A seller's permit may not be needed if everything you sell is exempt, but many suppliers and marketplaces still ask for one, so check with them. Health and beauty products can be taxable in other places, so check where you sell.

For the Georgia address, I cannot supply an office location. Register the business at the real place where you operate, or use a registered agent's address for state papers. A local business license depends on that location.

I live in New York and want to start a mobile petting zoo. I also want to sell gift baskets by taking the order and having a company ship it. What do I need, and can I charge sales tax?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

A mobile petting zoo carries real risk, since children and animals mix and a bite or a fall could lead to a claim. An LLC is the proper vehicle, because it separates that exposure from your personal assets, and it can bring in investors. A foreign owner is fine for an LLC.

• Petting zoo: animal exhibits are regulated, so expect animal health paperwork, permits for events, and liability insurance that venues will ask for.
• Business license, locally, plus approvals for each event location.
• EIN, for banking and taxes.

For the gift baskets, to charge sales tax you need a seller's permit, which in New York is registered as a certificate of authority. Even if you never touch the product or the money, if you take the order and your company is the seller, you generally must be registered to collect tax. If the other company is the seller of record, it may handle that, so clarify who sells.

How long does it take to get a reseller's permit in New York with expedited service? I do not have a certificate of authority for my LLC. I also have questions about zoning for a home inspection business.
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

In New York, the sales tax registration is called a certificate of authority, and a reseller's permit is built on it, so you do need one for your LLC. We can file it with expedited handling, which moves faster than standard processing, but I cannot promise a specific number of days because timing depends on the application.

Home inspection is a service, so the permit matters mainly if you also sell products or tools that are taxable. Your LLC fits the business well: inspectors face claims when something is missed, and the LLC separates those from your personal assets.

• Zoning: a home office is usually allowed, but you do not need a vote from the town council in most cases. Ask locally whether a home occupation approval applies.
• Professional license: home inspectors are licensed in many places, so confirm before you take clients.

File the certificate of authority well before your first sale, since New York asks that you register in advance.

What license do I need to buy seafood in Louisiana, transport it to Tennessee and sell it to restaurants and the public, and do I need a wholesale license?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

Form an LLC before anything else. Moving fresh shrimp and other seafood across state lines involves spoilage, illness and vehicle risks, and the LLC protects your personal assets while showing restaurants that they are dealing with an established company. A foreign owner can hold an LLC, too.

• EIN, for the account, payroll and supplier accounts.
• Seller's permit: it works as your wholesale and resale registration, so you can buy without tax and sell with tax. You may need one wherever you sell.
• Seafood dealer permit: seafood is regulated at each step, including buying, cold storage and delivery, so ask where your product is sourced and sold.
• Business license, locally.

Whether you open a fish market or a restaurant, each needs its own food permits and inspections.
